Edinburgh company, Cappuccino Ads has been selected as the best Scottish company at the The Kalixa Pro Spirit of Small Business Awards this week. This follows on from their shortlist in the New Business of the Year category at the National Business Awards, for which they are the only Scottish company to make the finals.

Founded in 2013 by Ian LeBruce, Cappuccino Ads provides coffee shops with biodegradable cups printed with advertising, allowing a unique way for a range of businesses to reach a new customer base. The enterprise employs eight members of staff and has seen its distribution double in the last six months. With sales expected to double again in the next twelve months, Cappuccino Ads is fast approaching a £1million valuation.

Ian LeBruce welcomed news of the awards success saying:

“I’m delighted with the recognition these awards bring. They’re a testament to the hard work the whole team has put in to deliver a product that has been so beneficial to such a range of users. Partnership opportunities with prestigious events like the Commonwealth Games and the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival has helped to put us on the map this summer but notwithstanding, Cappuccino Ads has grown at a phenomenal rate in our first year. I’m proud of retaining our sustainable approach to business while at the same time providing a growing number of employment opportunities.”

The Kalixa Pro Spirit of Small Business Awards celebrate and recognise the very best entrepreneurs, small businesses and sole traders in Britain. The judges, including Ultimo lingerie entrepreneur Michelle Mone OBE, reward eleven exceptional small businessesfrom across the country. The Outstanding Small Business of the Year award is then opened to a public vote with each of the eleven winning businesses being in with the chance of being awarded the overall title.

Now entering their 12th year, The National Business Awards are the UK's premier, cross-industry accolades for enterprise excellence. Emma Jones, CEO of Enterprise Nation is a judge at the National Business Awards. She praised Cappuccino Ads in her shortlisting:

“This product and idea is win-win-win. Cappuccino Ads has successfully expanded in Scotland and is now looking beyond its own borders. It has a strong entrepreneurial and ethical approach and is surrounding itself with the support a new business needs.”

Cappuccino Ads has been recognised by SMARTA and O2 as one of the 100 best small businesses in the UK and has also been nominated for the New Business of the Year in the Scottish Business Awards and GB Business Awards this year.

Ian LeBruce was listed as a BQ Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year earlier this year. His diverse experience includes a background in particle physics and video game development (including Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft:xbox edition). In 2013 he was awarded a Shell Livewire Award in recognition of his creative entrepreneurial approach.

Recent recruitment at Cappuccino Ads has brought on board Steve Jeans as Chief Technical Officer and Jonny Lewery as Chief Creative Officer. Jeans has run the successful Fuaran mineral water brand and worked in the oil and gas industry while Lewery owns and runs Stay Frothy motion and digital design agency.

Cappuccino Ads has graduated through the Entrepreneurial-Spark process, which aims to create an entrepreneurial revolution in Scotland.
